I am reading a book right now that talks about spiritual warfare. The bible says in Ephesians 6 that as followers and lovers of Jesus Christ, there is a realm we cannot see with our eyes which is real, opposed to God and very dark. These are the powers we as believers wrestle against, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. We are told to put on the full armor of God in order to withstand the attacks from the enemy. Other places in scripture we are warned to be alert and sober-minded because we have an adversary who prowls about seeking whom he may devour.
There are many extreme beliefs when it comes to these things. "Spiritual Warfare Sideways- Keeping the Focus on Jesus" by Guy Chevreau explains a biblical approach to understanding spiritual warfare is to understand that there is a very real very dark and very powerful realm that hates Jesus Christ and hates those who love, serve, glorify and belong to Him. However, the truth of that realm is to remain in our peripheral vision while our eyes are FIXED upon Jesus. Jesus is no match for Satan. They are not opposites. Satan is a fraud and has no place or authority in comparison to Jesus Christ who was and is and is to come. I highly recommend the book because it is straight forward, Chevreau is fun to read and it's important to know what scripture says about these things. We are in a battle.
Anyways, all that to say is as I was reading chapter 3 yesterday and Chevreau talks about the names and titles of Satan and the names and titles of the Lord God in the bible which I will share at a later date. I was greatly bolstered in the POWER of Jesus' name because there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. If we only had a tiny understanding of who God truly is and His amazing heart for mankind, we would be knocked speechless and dumbfounded. I glory in that!
A friend last night shared a devotional with me from David McGee, a pastor I like to listen to (check out www.aboutthebridge.com) that flowed right along with the different names of the Lord throughout scripture so I couldn't skip sharing these points from it now.
"All of your pain and all of your sorrows- take them to JEHOVAH RAPHA, the LORD who heals you. All of your worries and anxiety- take them to JEHOVAH SHALOM, the LORD of peace. All of your insufficiency and all of your lacking- take them to EL SHADDAI, the all sufficient one. When you are fearful of what the world holds, go to JEHOVAH NISSI, the LORD is my banner. When you are lonely and all alone- know JEHOVAH SHAMMAH, the LORD is there. When you are wandering and lost, wait for JEHOVAH RAAH, the LORD my shepherd. When you stumble or fall go to JEHOVAH M'KADDESH, the LORD who makes you holy. Who are these? These are ONE, ELOHIM, GOD-- the Creator and Keeper of Covenants. The One who says, 'and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'(Matthew 28:20) Your Heavenly Father loves you and will never leave or abandon you."
PROVERBS 18:10 -The NAME OF THE LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
I pray you have been encouraged :)
